The final event of the 2023 World Triathlon Championship Series took place in Pontevedra, Spain, September 21-24. While I wasn't attending this event in a working capacity, I was supporting my father, Wayne, who raced his first-ever world championship in the 70-74 aquabike age group. While I was happy to not have to roll fence after the event, I still took a great interest in noticing many of the unique event operations and infrastructure characteristics. The photos below detail many of the unique aspects of this massive championship weekend. I also detailed my experience from a race director's perspective in this blog post. Over 2,000 age group athletes and nearly 200 elite athletes representing several dozen countries attended World Triathlon's culminating event. Elite races were televised on TriathlonLive.
Elite Men triathletes progress through the bike course though the main race venue. An estimated 40,000+ spectators lined the courses for this world championship race.
